Most visitors arrive by air at our small airport (accommodating small jets and propeller planes). A small cruise ship also docks weekly in Yellow Leaf Bay. Airport expansion for larger jets is planned.
Public buses serve Taniti City (5am-11pm daily), private buses serve the rest of the island. Taxis, rental cars, and bikes with helmets are available. Taniti City and Merriton Landing are very walkable.
Many younger Tanitians speak fluent English. Very little English is spoken in rural areas, especially by older residents.
Violent crime is very rare on Taniti. With increased tourism, there are more reports of pickpocketing and petty crimes, but overall it remains very safe.
U.S. dollars are primary currency, with euros and yen accepted by many businesses. Power outlets are 120 volts (same as US). Major credit cards accepted.
Drinking age is 18 (not strictly enforced). Alcohol cannot be served or sold between midnight and 9:00 AM.
One hospital with multilingual staff and several clinics serve the island.
Taniti has many national holidays when attractions and restaurants may close. Plan accordingly and check holiday schedules.
